The market, our position, and the real gap.

An honest gut-check: are we building something people actually need, or selling "a website" nobody's asking for? The data says, both are true. Here's how we make sure it's the first one.

The market reality

14M
NG SMEs running on Meta apps (FB/IG/WhatsApp)
~95%
WhatsApp penetration, where deals actually close
64%
of social commerce discovery happens on Instagram
109M
Nigerians online, buying daily

SME marketing budgets run ₦30K-100K/mo (growth-stage) up to ₦100K-300K/mo (paid multi-channel). The money + attention is real. But so is the competition, and it's not who we thought.

The uncomfortable truth

"A website" is NOT the value, that problem's already solved, cheaper.

Nigerian SMEs already sell fine on WhatsApp + Instagram. And DIY tools built FOR them, Bumpa (free store on signup + inventory + payments, $4M-funded), Catlog, Selar, Paystack/Flutterwave storefronts, spin up an online store in minutes, no developer, near-free.

So if Pejji competes as "a cheaper website builder," we lose, to free tools and to social. That's the low-value path you were worried about, and you're right to worry about it.

Where the REAL value + gap is

The value was never the website. It's the 5 things the free tools + social can't give, that a business genuinely needs once it's serious:

Our position, the gap on the map

The market is split into two extremes, and the middle is empty:

Nobody is cleanly serving "the SME ready to graduate from IG-vendor to a real brand, done for them, affordably." That's the wedge.

Who Pejji is for (and who it isn't)

✓ FOR

  • SMEs that have OUTGROWN social + want to be a real brand
  • Owners too busy/non-technical to DIY it
  • Businesses chasing B2B / corporate / diaspora credibility
  • Anyone tired of renting their business on Meta

✗ NOT (yet)

  • The brand-new market vendor happy on WhatsApp
  • Someone who just needs a free product catalog
  • Price-only shoppers, they'll pick free DIY, and that's fine

Trying to sell "a website" to everyone = the no-value path. Serving the graduating, serious SME with ownership + brand + done-for-you = genuine value they'll pay for.

The two markets

Nigeria: huge volume, but price-sensitive + DIY-saturated. Win the graduating-SME segment + lead with ownership/brand/credibility, NOT price.

Canada / diaspora (the merch + brand play): higher-value, clients pay real money, far less DIY-saturated, and it plugs into the Two-Country arbitrage, global-standard brand work at a Nigerian cost base. This may be the higher-margin lane.

The honest verdict: yes, there's real value here, but ONLY if we target the graduating/serious SME and lead with OWNERSHIP, BRAND, CREDIBILITY + DONE-FOR-YOU, never "get a website." Framed as a cheap website, we lose to free tools. Framed as "stop renting your business, own your brand, done for you, secured", we're the only one in that gap. That's a path with real value to real people.
